Anti-Trump protests erupt across the United States

Thousands of people protested across the United States on Wednesday (November 9) over Republican Donald Trump’s surprise victory in Tuesday’s U.S. presidential election, blasting his campaign rhetoric around immigrants, Muslims and other groups.

On Wednesday evening, roughly 1,000 people attempted to gather outside the Trump International Hotel and Tower in downtown Chicago while chanting and holding up banners. Chicago police had closed roads in the area, blocking the demonstrators’ path.

In Austin, Texas, students from the University of Austin marched through the streets towards the state capitol. Many held anti-Trump protesters and chanted, “not my president”.

In Nashville, Tennessee, dozens of students from Fisk College marched to protest the election results.

Holding signs and chanting, many said they were tired of discrimination in the United States.

Protests were planned for Philadelphia, Washington D.C. and New York.
