Anxiety grips Cabinet as Uhuru asks CSs to prepare handover notes

President Uhuru Kenyatta has directed all Cabinet Secretaries to prepare handover notes, this latest directive giving  the clearest hint that the Kenyatta-Ruto second term cabinet could be unveiled as soon as next week.

While President Kenyatta is expected to address nation on Monday, even the high flying CSs who are almost assured of a return to the cabinet, have to prepare the notes, since they may not be retained in the dockets they currently hold.

Multiple sources disclosed that the directive is aimed at facilitating a smooth transition in their respective dockets.

President Kenyatta and DP William Ruto have so far remained tight lipped on who will make it to the cabinet amid the vicious scramble for the key executive slots.

At least 9 out of the current 19 members of the outgoing cabinet likely to lose the flag, as Kenyatta and Ruto seek to assemble a team that will reflect the country’s regional and ethnic diversity, factor in merit and gender balance, while at the same time rewarding political loyalty with the 2022 succession also at play.

Parliament is scheduled to adjourn on Thursday for the long Christmas recess.

The house leadership is expected to meet the President and his Deputy on Monday 4th December, to settle on the calendar of events, including the vetting of cabinet nominees, by the appointments committee.

Sources also disclosed that the President and his Deputy will name 22 cabinet secretaries and increase the number of ministries to the maximum provided for in article 152 of the constitution.

Former Meru Governor Peter Munya, Jubilee Party Secretary General Raphael Tuju, Former Mombasa Senator Hassan Omar, Former Budalang’i Mp Ababu Namwamba and Former Funyula Mp Paul Otuoma are among those angling for CS positions.

In a past event, Munya indicated that his 2022 presidential bid will depend on the CS portfolio that the President will appoint him.

“Depending on the nature of the job that the President will give me, I can’t confirm to you whether I will run for the Presidency in 2022.” Said Munya

“ I will review that decision when it is clear where I am going to serve,” he added
