AP officer accused of killing boda boda rider at Mama Lucy Hospital charged with murder
A policeman accused of shooting and killing a bodaboda rider at the Mama Lucy Kibaki Hospital has been charged with one count of murder.
Zadock Ochuka Oyieka, an Administration Police constable, has pleaded not guilty of killing Daniel Mburu Wangari on February 18, 2020 at Mama Lucy Hospital.
The prosecution told the court that it has lined up 22 witnesses to testify against the officer.
The case will be heard in September 2020 from date 22 to 30th of the same month.
The rider who was identified as Mburu had rushed his neighbour’s toddler to the hospital and was later engaged in a dispute with the security guards manning the facility’s gate.
It is then that the officer jerked his rifle and shot the rider, injuring him fatally.
The rider was pronounced dead at the hospital’s emergency section while the officer was arrested the following day.
Witnesses said the officer just cocked his firearm and shot at the boda boda rider despite having been subdued by guards who wanted to know why he entered the hospital with his motorcycle.
