AP officer in Kakamega Central cries out for help, blames seniors for ‘frustrating’ her

A police disciplinary committee is now investigating a case where a female police officer on Friday caused a scene at the Kakamega County Commissioners office.

In a video recording that has since gone viral, Jane is heard lamenting how she can no longer hold it back.

Sergeant Jane Asimitisi emotionally spoke about discrimination and harassment, daring her superiors to fire her.

In her rant, the Sergeant says she is fed up even with the code of silence and protocol that bars junior police officers from speaking to the media and decided to speak her mind regardless of the consequences that she knows will follow.

“ Wakitaka wanifute kazi. Mimi hata afdhali niende kabla nifanye action na hii weapon, mara nyingi mnasikia polisi wanafanya kitu mbaya,” said Sergeant Asimitsi.

“I am very stressed, very stressed. Na mimi hii kazi mimi sitaki .Mimi nateseka sana na ninawaita mnione na hii uniform. Mtu yeyote aone Matiangi hata Boss, wakitaka wanifute kazi,” she continued.

But where did things start falling apart for Jane?

“Mimi nimekuwa nimeolewa hapa na nakaa na shida….Mnanitesa kwa sababu bwana yangu ni askari mwenzangu. Miaka hii yote kutoka 2009, sisi hatuna haki.” lamented Jane.

She may have persevered, but the final straw she says was when she was assigned the national examination duty and later re-assigned.

“ Hii ndiyo kitu inanipea stress.Mimi hii miaka yote mbona sipewi kazi ya pesa,” Said Jane.

Her viral video galvanized a lot of public sympathy with Kenyans online labelling her plight as traumatizing and unfair discrimination.

They called on the Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA), the Ministry of Interior and the Inspector General of Police Hillary Mutyambai to act.

The Deputy Regional Commander Leonard Omollo has however criticized her move and warned of stern action.

“Other duties must be done. Not just container duty,” said Omollo.

“I am stressed, narudi kwetu nifuge ng’ombe,” retorted Jane.

Sergeant Jane Asimitisi now awaits disciplinary action to determine her fate.
