AP officer murdered year after wife was shot dead by police in Kericho

An Administration Police (AP) officer was on Wednesday found dead under unclear circumstances in Kaplaba village, Kericho County.

Confirming the incident, county Director of Criminal Investigations Stephen Chacha Magwe said the body of Justus Too, an officer attached to Kotulo AP post in Wajir County, was found on the Londiani – Muhoroni road near Jambo Kenya trading center.

Mr. Magwe said officers from Kipkelion Police Station rushed to the scene thinking it was an accident but – on checking the body – discovered that it had stab wounds.

Preliminary investigations have since revealed that the deceased was assaulted with a blunt object and his body dragged for about 40 meters and dumped by the roadside in an attempt to make it look like an accident.

A phone suspected to have been accidentally dropped by the assailants was also found on the scene.

The DCI boss further said the incident could be connected to the case of the AP officer’s wife who was last year shot dead by police officers.

According to Mr. Magwe, the deceased – during the 2018 incident – had fired in the air at a nearby trading center, forcing police officers from Kipkelion AP camp to rush to the scene in an attempt to disarm him; during which his wife was shot.

The body of the deceased has since been moved to Kericho sub-county Hospital mortuary as investigations continue.
