AP officer who shot boda boda rider dead at Mama Lucy Hospital detained for 6 days

An Administration Police officer who shot and killed a boda boda rider at Mama Lucy Hospital was on Thursday arrested and arraigned before a Nairobi court.

24-year-old Daniel Mburu was reportedly taking an injured child from Korokocho to the facility for treatment when a disagreement ensued between him and the officer, Zaddock Oyieka.

Appearing before Magistrate Eston Nyaga, officer Oyieka was detained for 6 days pending completion of investigations into the incident.

The prosecution had requested for 14 days to record all witness statements and for the suspect to be taken for mental assessment in order to be charged with murder.

He is expected to be brought back to court on February 28.

During the Wednesday incident, Mburu reportedly rode into the hospital and parked his motorcycle at the wrong spot, thereby rubbing the officer the wrong way.

The act led to a confrontation which, as witnesses told Citizen Digital, escalated and the officer drew out his weapon and fired at the boda boda operator.

The officer then fled the scene as civilians who witnessed the incident started charging towards him baying for his blood.
