AP officers, driver attached to Homa Bay DG Orata charged with murder

Two Administration Police officers attached to Homa Bay County Deputy Governor Hamilton Orata and his driver were on Monday charged with murder.

The officers, who guard the village home of Mr. Orata in Ndhiwa, as well as the driver were arraigned before Justice David Karanja following their arrest on Monday.

The APs – Fredrick Kimanzi and Lawi Gitari – and Alex Onyango Arot (driver) were accused of murdering Abdinasir Ahmed at a bar.

The court heard that the trio jointly murdered Ahmed at Status lounge restaurant in Ndhiwa town within Homa Bay County between April 27 and April 2, 2019.

The suspects, however, did not take plea since their mental health status is yet to be established.

Justice Karanja ordered that they be taken to Homa Bay County Referral Hospital for medical assessment, after which they be remanded at Homa Bay GK Prison for seven days.

The judge further directed Homa Bay Deputy Registrar to appoint a defense lawyer for the accused.

The three will return to court on July 16, 2019 when they are expected to take plea.
