- According to the netizens, there is a multitude of jobless Kenyan youth better suited to hold the position and who are more deserving of the chance.
Kenyans online have expressed their dismay, frustration and indignation at the news of the appointment of former Vice President Moody Awori among a seven-member oversight board to manage the Sports, Art and Social Development Fund.
According to a gazette report by Finance Cabinet Secretary Henry Rotich on Tuesday, Mr. Awori and his new colleagues will be tasked with preparing and submitting quarterly reports as well as developing infrastructure and facilitating Team Kenya for their national assignment among other roles.
Kenyans on Twitter have, however, not taken the news in kind with most urging the former VP – who turned 91 on Wednesday – to turn down the appointment and proceed with retirement.
According to the netizens, there is a multitude of jobless Kenyan youth better suited to hold the position and who are more deserving of the chance.
They further criticized President Uhuru Kenyatta for failing to deliver on his promise to the youth and, instead, recycling retired civil servants who have served in past governments and are now of old age.
A few of them even congratulated Mr. Awori for his appointment, albeit sarcastically, with one such user – @mistatash – saying he brings “tonnes of experience, relevance and vigor to serve 80% of the population composed of the youth.”
Below are some of the opinions from KOT:
Moody Awori is older than 50 million people in Kenya. Only 19,000 people are older than him.
Moody Awori turned 18 in 1946. Most of our parents weren't even born then. pic.twitter.com/MpuilfA2Og

Wikipedia says Moody Awori was born on December 5, 1928, making him 90 today …. Uncle Moody joined Mang’u High School in 1935. At merely 7 Years? …… Anyway, Uncle Moody should reject with contempt his appointment to the Sports Fund Board.

Moody Awori is 91years old. He is making a comeback to public service as a board member while his 94year old counterpart in Kabarak is enjoying his retirement and pension with peace. Something is fundamentally wrong in this country. Who really advices leaders in this country?

Moody Awori was 35 when Kenya got independence. Now they want him to oversee the budgets for the 5 stadio we were to get 5yrs ago. Wau, A cowntry…

Moody Awori, born in 1928, appointed to Sports Fund. Nothing against Uncle Moody, but do they want him to die in a public office so that he can receive state-fundes funeral?
Rubbish country. https://t.co/v5H3ojKwqI

Even a young Moody Awori wouldnt be fit for the appointment. The guy has zero experience in sports. Uhuru is impermeable to basic common sense and logic!

2017: "Huyo mganga Mzee aende retire Bondo acheze na wajukuu wake."
2018: "Uhuru Kenyatta appoints 91 year-old Moody Awori to the Board of Sports, Arts & Social Development Fund."
Razor blade is that one, that one.

The most noble thing Ex-VP Moody Awori can do is to decline the appointment. Thousands of youths are jobless and can do a better job than him. His future is in the past and the best thing is for him to do is continue investing his billions to create employment for other youths. pic.twitter.com/tjdoPJKiud

When a Moody Awori trends you fear the worst. When you realise it isn't what you 1st feared, the shock departs temporarily only to be replaced by more shock and sadness. Initially for the loss of a great man and later for the loss of direction of dear country☹️

Citizenry: There's nothing you can do at this point to shock or piss us off more than we already are.
Govt: Hold my beer …
