Archbishop Wabukala calls for referendum to rid Kenya of greedy politicians

Anglican Church of Kenya (ACK) Archbishop Eliud Wabukala has called for a referendum by the next General Election to liberate the country from politicians’ appetite for money and power.

Speaking at Murang’a ACK Cathedral, Wabukala said the only way to stop greed and corruption was to sponsor a motion of referendum that will be drafted in time for the next General Election.

Dr Wabukala, who is also the chairman of National Anti-Corruption Campaign Steering Committee, urged Kenyans to form a strong movement to tame the vices ahead of the 2017 General Election, saying that it is the only way to rescue the country.

He noted that a premium had been given to politics by awarding politicians hefty salaries thus creating competition for political offices.

“The referendum needs to put a salary scale for those who seek political office,” said the Archbishop.

He added that there should be a third force, third revolution or a third reformation in this country.

“We have moved away from the independence era, Moi era and we are now with the new constitution,” said Wabukala, adding that his suggestion would be another reform to liberate the country from the appetite for money and power.

Recently, there have been claims that the billions raised by the Eurobond have not been properly accounted for, with Cord leader Raila Odinga claiming the government cannot account for Sh75 billion of the amount.

However, speaking at Vigurungani Trading Centre in Kinango, Kwale County, Deputy President William Ruto maintained that the government had kept all the money safe in offshore accounts and that the opposition was misleading Kenyans that the money has been lost through dubious transactions.
