Armed robbers steal 20 bags of coffee worth Ksh.400K in Kirinyaga

Four armed robbers on Monday raided the Gituto coffee factory in Gichugu, Kirinyaga County, and made away with 20 bags of coffee valued at Ksh.400,000.

Kanjuu Cooperative Society Chairman Jamleck kariuki, who also heads of one of the factories affiliated to Gituto, stated that the robbers tied the two security guards before entering the factory.

According to Kariuki, the two guards as well as two factory managers and a casual worker are presently being held at Kianyaga Police Station for questioning.

The society treasurer Patrick Muriuki has since called for thorough investigations into the incident in order to bring the culprits to book.

Gichugu OCPD Anthony Wanjuu Mbogo stated investigations had began, further stating that – following a security meeting with the farmers – police officers will now be manning factories during the packaging period.
