Arrest negligent parents, gov’t told

Nominated MCA for Embu County Shunem Ngira has called for the arrest of parents who are not taking their children to school.

Ms Ngira noted that most parents in the area are not taking the responsibility of educating their children, despite the fact that they are financially able to do so.

“I call upon the chiefs and their assistants to conduct swoops and see to it that these parents are brought to book,” Ngira said.

This came after the MCA rescued two brothers of aged 8 and 11 from child labour.

“These children have not been going to school since their parents separated in 2013, they have been doing casual jobs around the villages yet their father can afford to take them to school,” she said.

She also noted that most parents in the area do not want to take their children to school, adding that it is killing their future.

Ngira bought school uniforms for the two children and enrolled them in one of the schools in Mbeere South.

“I will see to it that these boys complete their education so that they can have a fruitful future, ” she said.
