Arrest warrant issued against ODM elections boss

The High Court has issued a warrant of arrest against ODM National Elections Board boss Judith Pareno for contempt of court.

On Monday, Justice Jessie Lesiit directed the police to arrest her within the next 24 hours.

Pareno had been summoned to appear before the High Court on Monday  to explain why she should not be punished for disobeying a court order arising from disputed ODM results for the Muhoroni Constituency nominations.

However, the ODM elections boss failed to appear or send a representative to the court.

In the case before the court, Professor Ayiecho Olweny contested the nominations outcome, telling the court that he did not know the source of results which ODM party used to declare his rival, the incumbent MP James Onyango K’Oyoo, the winner.

It was then the court ordered ODM to produce results from all the polling centres in Muhoroni Constituency and directed Pareno to ensure that the results were tabulated.

Further, the court ordered Pareno to ensure that the winner be declared using the total number of votes, a directive ignored by ODM who issued a nominations certificate to MP K’Oyoo to fly the party flag in August General Election.
