Arrest warrant out for rugby player Alex Olaba in rape case

A warrant of arrest has been issued for Alex Olaba, a rugby player who failed to appear in court for the second time for a judgement in a rape case.

Justice Martha Mutuku was to give the judgement on Thursday, June 12 but Olaba failed to appear.

His lawyer told the court that the rugby player was stuck in traffic and unable to get to court in time.

The magistrate consequently deferred the matter to Friday, July 12 but the 2nd accused person was still missing.

The two rugby players Frank Wanyama and Alex Olaba denied gang-raping a female singer and were released on a cash bail of Ksh. 500,000 each in August last year.

According to the charge sheet, the two were accused of committing the crime at Highrise estate, Nairobi on February 11, 2018.

Since then, Wanyama and Olaba have not taken part in any rugby event.

The judgement has now been deferred to August 5 at the Milimani Law Courts.
