Arsonists burn down Nakuru MCAs house

Property worth millions of shillings was last night reduced to ashes after a fierce fire burnt down the home of Menengai Ward MCA Lucy Kihumba at Rongai in Nakuru.

Speaking at Rongai, the OCPD Mr Joseph Mwamburi said the inferno is suspected to have been caused by arsonists who doused the MCA’s house with petrol before setting it ablaze.

The incident that happened at 3.00am also led to the killing of four dogs belonging to Kihumba.

It is suspected that the dogs were poisoned as all of them were found with discharge on the mouth.

Fear engulfed Rongai village as locals tried to come to terms with the unfortunate incident.

MCAs who visited the scene, led by nominated nakuru MCA Mrs Catherine Waweru termed the incident as unfortunate and called on police to expedite investigations.

A spot check at the scene revealed that the arsonists had dosed sisal strings with petrol in order to ease the spread of fire.

The police officers recovered petrol jerrycans a few metres from the scene which they intend to use in tracking the persons involved in burning down Kihumba’s house.

All occupants in the House, who included Mrs Kihumba, escaped unhurt although the arsonists are said to have attempted to lock them in before setting fire to the house.

Her Toyota RAV 4 vehicle, which was within her premises was also burnt down.

Her colleagues at the county assembly empathised with her on social media even as they urged for investigation to be carried out on the matter.

It is reported that the ward representative lost property estimated at Sh40 Million in the morning fire.

Nakuru County Assembly has previously been on the limelight after a rift emerged between the speaker and deputy speaker with members of the two divides physically fighting it out in public.

It is yet to be established whether political rivalry could have played a part in the incident.
