Arsonists raid MPs home; burn store, SUV car

A vehicle belonging to Nyakach MP Aduma Owuor was on Saturday night torched by unknown arsonists at his rural home in Kabete village, Kisumu County.

According to Kisumu Police Commander Titus Yoma, the MP’s vehicle – a Mitsubishi Pajero – and a maize store were razed in the midnight incident.

Mr Yoma said neighbours rushed to the MP’s house at the time of the incident but only managed to put out the fire at the store. The vehicle had been burned down completely.

According to residents, George Omondi – a former head teacher of Nyabondo Boys’ Boarding Primary School who committed suicide last week –, allegedly mentioned MP Aduma Owuor in his suicide note as one of the people who frustrated him at work.

Many suspect that the statement in the note might have led to the arson incident.

Kisumu Police boss Titus Yoma said that the MP was not at home at the time of the incident.

Mr Yoma added that police have launched investigations into the matter.
