Assembly wants scholarships directed to counties

Embu County Assembly Education committee chairperson, Winrose Ngithi, has called for direct beneficial scholarships to students at the county levels instead of channeling them through the national government.

The chairperson said that it was upon the leaders to direct scholarships benefits to the students from their areas whenever they travel to foreign countries to negotiate scholarship offers.

According to Ms Ngithi, students often miss scholarship opportunities owing to the high levels of competition at the national level.

The Education chairperson appealed to the countries offering scholarship opportunities to directly deal with the county governments accusing some leaders of seeking scholarship benefits for their supporters only.

She also called for direct exchange programs between foreign countries and vocational training centres in a bid to boost education.

“The exchange programs will see students at the vocational centres tap expertise and acquire quality skills able to transform their lives,” she said.
