An Assistant Chief in Nandi Central Sub-county died on Tuesday after allegedly slipping into a borehole as he was trying to draw water in Kabrer Village.

Confirming the incident, Nandi Central Deputy County Commissioner George Matundura said Francis Kipkoech Kemboi, 45, was alone and that might have contributed to his death since no one was there to rescue him.

The deputy county commissioner said investigations had been launched to ascertain whether the death of the Kaplamai Sub-location Assistant Chief was indeed an accident.

On his part, Senior Chief Benjamin Koech said the deceased had started distancing himself from other administrators.

Mr. Koech said they suspect his assistant might have been undergoing a domestic problem.
