Francis Atwoli, Secretary General of the Central Organization of Trade Unions (COTU) now claims that his life is in danger.

He alleges that ‘some people’ are planning to ‘eliminate’ him and that a group of hitmen have already been hired to to the job.

Atwoli told Citizen Digital that he has received reliable information that there are plans to kill him.

According to the COTU boss, the said people are apparently unhappy with his recent comments about making amendments to the Constitution.

During the Labour Day celebrations on May 1, Atwoli said President Uhuru Kenyatta is “too young to retire from politics” and should be given another role after 2022.

“The Constitution should be amended to accommodate more people,” he told Kenyans who had gathered at Uhuru Park in Nairobi.

On Saturday, he called on the Kenyan Government to ensure his safety and launch investigations into the alleged claims against his life.

He added that he had a made formal complaint to relevant authorities.

A defiant Atwoli however maintained that despite the said threats,  he would continue to speak out about issues related to the welfare of Kenyan workers.
