Atwoli responds to Alice Wahome on claims of Uhuru-Raila PM plot

Francis Atwoli has said every Kenyan has the democratic right to contest for any post under the anticipated new constitution.

Responding to Kandara MP Alice Wahome on claims that he is pushing for President Uhuru Kenyatta to become Prime Minister, Atwoli told off the lawmaker saying it is Kenyans who will decide but he is free to make suggestions.

“Maoni yangu inaweza kupingwa au kupewa support na wakenya. Hakuna mtu hata kama kutakuwa na nafasi ya Prime Minister atakayechaguliwa bila kura. Sisi tunasema katiba ikikuja mpya under BBI arrangement, kila mtu ana uhuru wa kuchagua ni kiti gani ambacho atapigania… hatuwezi kukosa kusuggest,” Atwoli said.

Speaking in Nakuru on Friday, the Secretary General of the Central Organization of Trade Unions (COTU) maintained that the clamor for an inclusive government will continue for the sake of unity and peace in the country.

He maintained that every Kenyan has the democratic right to contest for any post under the anticipated new constitution.

On Thursday, Kandara MP Alice Wahome hit out at President Kenyatta and ODM Party leader Raila Odinga calling them out for allegedly plotting for the PM post in 2022 through the BBI.

“The biggest existential threat to Kenya’s declining economy, democracy and freedom of expression, political affiliation and growth is Uhuru Kenyatta, because he is on the driver’s seat,” she said on Thursday.

The lawmaker cited recent remarks by Atwoli and two other leaders she termed as the Head of State’s confidants.

“Raila Odinga is his new political mercenary for hire, and the BBI report is the special-purpose vehicle heading to the route that has been suggested by Murathe, Atwoli and Beth Mugo,” she claimed.

“I’m sure Kenyans must be thinking Murathe is dreaming. No, I don’t think Murathe is dreaming. I don’t think Atwoli is talking from nowhere. I do not think Beth Mugo, who is a close relative of Uhuru Kenyatta, is speaking from nowhere,” she added.

Murathe, in a recent interview claimed that Kenyatta will remain in power as a Prime Minister after the 2022 general election.

On his part, Atwoli had also said President Kenyatta is too young to retire at 60 come 2022, hence his term should be extended.
