Auditor General Report Reveals Misuse of County Funds

The report says there was illegal withdrawal of funds from the then council bank accounts as well as irregular recruitment of workers during the transition

This was revealed today when the Auditor General presented his audit report to the Senate Finance Committee chaired by Billow Kerrow, Wednesday morning.

He proposed in the report an integrated financial system; Financial Management Information System (IFMIS) to manage county funds.

According to his report, one county has a 30 million petty cash system and in another, a Governor used millions in a meet-the- people tour.

The Auditor General recommends regular timely audit of county governments as opposed to annual or bi-annual auditing.

He was asked to submit a report of 10 counties with outstanding audit issues to be analyzed by the same Senate committee.

The Senate Committee chairman Billow Kerrow has recommended stern action on county officials found guilty of mismanaging funds.
