Aukot want IEBC bosses to quit, says he will be on the ballot again

Third way Alliance presidential candidate, Ekuru Aukot, has confirmed that he will be participating in the fresh presidential poll, after the Supreme Court of Kenya on Friday, September 1 annulled President Uhuru Kenyatta’s win last month on accounts that the process was not conducted as the constitution dictates.

Speaking on Sunday, September 3, Dr. Aukot argued that he has opted to take part in the freshly-ordered elections because the court was very clear on ordering IEBC to conduct another poll and therefore not a re-run.

However, Dr. Aukot says that Third Way Alliance will not allow the current IEBC as constituted to conduct the new polls as they cannot be trusted again, calling for Chairperson Wafula Chebukati to resign and allow other people to conduct elections.

“You cannot allow a thief even after stealing from you to come back and steal again. The director of elections, person in-charge of legal affairs, and CEO Ezra Chiloba must resign and be prosecuted over the illegalities they committed,” said Aukot.

According to Article 251 of the Constitution, the process of removing commissioners in an independent body include gross misconduct and violation of the Constitution, as well as incompetence and bankruptcy.

It is an elaborate process that involves the establishment of a tribunal to probe the conduct of commissioners, and with only 58 days to the lapse of the time outlined for conduct of a fresh presidential contest, overhauling IEBC is almost impossible.
