Autopsy: Charity Kemboi and her son were suffocated, 3rd casualty died from carbon monoxide poisoning

A woman and her son who were found murdered at the government quarters apartments along Jogoo road in Nairobi died due to lack of oxygen in their bodies.

This is according to a post mortem examination conducted on their bodies on Friday by Chief Government Pathologist Johansen Oduor.

According to Dr. Oduor, the woman; Charity Kemboi, and her son Allan Kipngetich were suffocated.

“The boy there were injuries on the neck and face. There was indication he had no oxygen in his body when he died. I concluded that the boy died because of what is called smothering. Either a hand or clothes were placed on his mouth and nose to deny him oxygen. Same as the mother eto deny him oxygen. Same mechanism as the mother,” said Dr. Oduor.

The third casualty, a male adult only identified as Kevin, who was also found dead in the house died from carbon monoxide poisoning and had some injuries on his arms and abdomen.

“For the gentleman he had superficial injuries on both arms and abdomen. However, when I look at the body, what actually killed him was carbon monoxide poisoning,” added the Chief Government Pathologist.

He further revealed that autopsy suggested that the male adult died about a day after the woman and her son.

“The boy and mother died earlier than the gentleman since there was advanced level of decomposition on their bodies. The gentleman’s body was fairly fresh so he likely died a day after the others,” said Oduor.

The bodies of Charity Kemboi and Allan Kipngetich were found on the floor in the bedroom while the body of Kevin, the male adult believed to be a University student, was found in the toilet, in a sitting position with his hands and legs tied together using a laptop charger cable.

On Thursday, homicide detectives and investigators from Buruburu Police Station made a second visit at the one bedroom apartment where the three were found dead.

At the house that has since been designated a scene of crime and locked, the detectives reconstructed the scene as they tried to figure out events before the murders.
