Autopsy reveals Gitonga killed by blunt object as Isiolo police deny claims

An autopsy has revealed that Patrick Gitonga, the businessman who died after Isiolo police allegedly assaulted him, had head injury caused by a blunt object.

The businessman from Timau, Meru County, died on July 6, 2019 at the Isiolo Referral Hospital where he had been rushed to in critical condition.

According to Dr. Moses Njue who conducted the autopsy, other parts of the body had several injuries but it was on the one on the head that killed him.

Both Dr. Njue, who represented the family, and Dr. Grace Mindigo, who represented the police, agreed on the post mortem examination.

The family has been allowed to bury their kin even as the autopsy report is submitted to the Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA), Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) for further investigation.

Officers from Isiolo Police Station have since denied claims that they roughed up Mr. Gitonga leading to his death.
