Avoid strikes, Kaimenyi urges students

Education Cabinet Secretary Prof Jacob Kaimenyi has advised learners to avoid engaging in strikes and instead use alternative ways to sort out their grievances.

The cabinet secretary lamented that through strikes learning institutions lose property, which impairs the development and progress of both the institution and learners.

Speaking on Monday at Jogoo House in Nairobi during the flagging off of a Kenyan Scout Team which is headed to Japan for the 23rd World’s Scout Conference, the CS called on students to use education as a tool of improving their lives.

He further called on learners to focus on fundamental areas of specialisation that will help them become productive, disciplined and innovative.

In reference to scouting as a co-curriculum activity, Kaimenyi noted that many young Kenyans have become successful citizens through the sporting activity.

He therefore urged the scout team to take advantage of the conference, which is slated to commence Tuesday, to share ideas, create strong bonds among themselves and learn more from the diversified communities across the globe.

Currently, the country has over 1 million scouts, the number, Prof Kaimenyi says should be used constructively to change the lives of Kenyans.
