Babu Owino pleads with President Kenyatta to save his political career

Embakasi East Member of Parliament Babu Owino has pleaded with President Uhuru Kenyatta to save him from his current predicament where he stares an uncertain political future.

While speaking in Parliament, Mr. Owino pleaded with Mr. Kenyatta to “release him from the furnace,” now that the opposition and the government are reading from the same script.

The first-time parliamentarian wants the Head of State’s intervention after his election was nullified by the High Court. He has since appealed the decision.

“As Babu Owino, just like stories in the Bible about Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego, who were put in a furnace to burn to death for failing to obey the king, but came out of the furnace stronger,” he said.

“I would like to tell the president, Uhuru Kenyatta, that he has put Babu Owino in fire, and he has burned and he is strong. I do not want to be stronger than this, let him remove me from the fire.”

His statements came during a debate on whether to back the unity pact initiated by President Uhuru Kenyatta and NASA principal Raila Odinga.

The motion, “Bipartisan resolve to support the initiative on ‘building bridges to a new Kenyan nation’”, saw opposition MPs differing on whether Mr. Odinga was right to meet the president without the blessings of his co-principals Kalonzo Musyoka, Musalia Mudavadi and Moses Wetangula.
