Babu Owino to remain in remand for 7 days
Embakasi East Member of Parliament Babu Owino will remain in remand for 7 more days pending bail ruling after denying attempted murder charge.
The embattled legislator was on Monday arraigned before Milimani Law Courts Chief Magistrate Francis Andayi for shooting and injuring a DJ.
Mr. Owino’s lawyer Cliff Ombeta sought his release on bail saying; “The accused person is the one that took the victim to hospital. He has gone ahead and paid Ksh.600,000 from his pocket to Nairobi Hospital for his treatment.”
“He is a family man, he cooperated with police in every step and is a Member of Parliament who has to go back to work,” added Ombeta.
Magistrate Andayi however declined the defense’s plea for bail ruling: “Given the gravity of the offence, the views of the victims are important before I give my ruling. It should be brought before me within the next seven days.”
The magistrate further stated that the MP will be remanded in prison and not a police station as had been sought by the defence team.
The controversial lawmaker shot and wounded Felix Orinda popularly known as DJ Evolve at B-Club in Nairobi on Friday.
He was detained at Kilimani Police Station before later being transferred to Gigiri Police Station.
