Embakasi East Member of Parliament Babu Owino has threatened IEBC Chairman Wafula Chebukati with removal from office if the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party loses in the upcoming Kibra Constituency by-election.

Babu Owino claims that ODM has conducted an opinion poll whose results indicate that the party will win the by-election by an over 70 percent majority.

The Embakasi East legislator, in a face-to-face threat to the IEBC chairman, warned that should the ODM candidate Imran Okoth, score anything below their expected win of 70 percent, then he (Chebukati) should be ready to go home.

“Chairman we did an opinion poll and it is showing that 70% of the Kibra residents are going to vote for our candidate. Therefore any reduction of that number will lead us Mr. chairman to mobilise, and this time it will be serious mobilization, to eject you from this office,” he said.

Babu Owino was speaking during a meeting between the electoral commission and ODM party leaders over the voters’ register to be used in the November 7 Kibra by-election.

ODM had alleged that the commission ignored several requests to avail an updated voter register for the mini poll.

The Embakasi East legislator reminded Chebukati that the Orange Party still has a “bad history” with the commission over what he described as their past stolen victories.

“Chairman you know we (ODM)  have had a very bad history with IEBC especially in 2017 when our election was rigged and evidence was clear by the nullification of the same election by the supreme court.

“Therefore I am not scared to tell you that we have bad blood between us and you because you were the referee as the chairman of IEBC. They took our house that time and now they want to take our bed,” he said.

He added: “We are also aware that the Jubilee people are the ones who made you not to leave office. This time round we are not joking with this election.”

Meanwhile, IEBC has announced it will use the 2017 voter register for the Kibra by-election. The decision was arrived at after a two-hour meeting with the ODM representatives.
