Baby among three who drowned after boat capsized in Lake Baringo

A one-year-old baby is among three people who drowned after a boat capsized in Lake Baringo.

Reports indicate that boat was overloaded as it had 12 people on board instead of the required eight.

“Distress call was received at 3:30pm that a boat carrying locals capsized. 9 passengers were rescued while three drowned,” said Jackson Komen, the County Warden in Charge of Lake Baringo.

The boat that belongs to Teddy Bare Resort was headed to Lempakany Island from Kampi ya Samaki beach.

OCPD Marigat Sub County Benjoliv Munuve said the survivors are in stable condition.

The three bodies are yet to be retrieved.

Over the Christmas and New Year holiday, tourists thronged Lake Baringo and hired boats to catch a glimpse of different sites.
