Baby stolen from KNH found in Kawangware, woman arrested

The baby who was stolen from Kenyatta National Hospital two days ago has finally been found in Kawangware, Nairobi.

This after a neighbour contacted the father, Job Nyatiti Ouko, after his heart wrenching story aired on Citizen TV on Monday night. He was also on Citizen Extra this morning pleading for the safe return of the infant.

Mr. Nyatiti gave out his number during the TV interviews and a good samaritan, who happened to have been watching, alerted him about a neighbour who came home with a baby two days ago.

The married woman, identified as “Edna”, is reported to have suffered a miscarriage recently, so it was odd that she would come home clutching a baby. It is believed that she went to Kenyatta National Hospital looking for a baby.

She was planning on travelling to Kisii today to start a new life with the stolen baby.

After leaving Citizen TV studios, the father, together with his brother and area chief, stormed the woman’s home and found Prince Ouko crying and still in the same clothes he was wearing when he was taken. He was also wrapped in the same shawls in the image circulated by police.

Angry neighbour’s almost lynched the woman once they learnt of the crime but police arrived and took her away.

Even before the neighbours learnt the woman was the culprit, they were concerned about a baby in the woman’s house who could not stop crying.

The discovery was made hours after police released CCTV image of the woman who allegedly stole the two-week old twin.

The woman stole the baby from KNH on Sunday, February 18 after she was asked by Ouko’s father, Job Nyatiti, to check on the twins as he wheeled his wife to a hospital room on the first floor.
