Baringo IDPs demand compensation

Over 1000 victims of the 2007/2008 post election violence and forest evictees from Timboroa, Baringo County are protesting against the lack of compensation from the national government.

Speaking to Citizen Digital, the internally displaced persons lamented that the violence left them impoverished, adding that the county government of Baringo promised to assist them but has not fulfilled its promise.

Speaking at Maji Mazuri Grounds, the affected families accused Baringo Governor Benjamin Cheboi of failing to uphold their rights. They are now calling on the national government to intervene and end their suffering.

Elsewhere, residents of Grogon Village, a slum in Embu County, are appealing to the county government to provide them with essential services including clean water and toilets.

Led by John Mugo, the residents told Citizen Digital that they had been moved from the former Grogon area in Embu Town and relocated to the area where they live now, adding that they have not been identified at the rightful owners of the land.

According to Mugo, all other slums within the town have access to essential services except Grogon.

“It is shocking that all other slums within the town have clean water and toilets but Grogon residents are not enjoying these services,” said Mugo.

They are now appealing to the county government to move with speed and provide them with the services.
