Balala issues eviction notice to those encroaching on beaches
The Government has ordered that all development within 30metres of the Indian Ocean beach be removed.
According to Tourism CS Najib Balala, the State will soon commence demolition of any structures too close too the ocean.
This he said is in line with the rehabilitation of riparian land and restoration of public property.
Balala was speaking in Malindi during the launch of a project to safeguard the waterfront that will start with the Sabaki River all the way to the Vasco da Gama pillar.
“The beach waterfront project that is going to take place in Malindi and we will share some designs. These are what contribute to tourism increasing the numbers in those destinations,” he said.
Kilifi Governor Amason Kingi called on Coastal residents to protect the beachfront as it is a major source of their livelihood.
“There will be some officers from the county and from the national government that will form a team to look at the designs and once public participation is done, then they will cost it,” he said, referring to the waterfront project.
