Bandits attack former IG Kimaiyos home, steal livestock

Bandits have attacked the home of former Inspector General of Police David Kimaiyo in Tot, Elgeyo Marakwet and stolen livestock.

According to eyewitnesses, gunshots were heard from the former IG’s house last night (Wednesday), with workers scampering for safety and hiding in a nearby bush as the bandits drove away the livestock.

This comes just one day after bandits set ablaze a rapid deployment unit truck at Mukutani in Baringo South and blocked several roads in the area.

The bandits, who are still a large, are also reported to have raided an AP and GSU camp injuring several administration police officers who have since been airlifted to Nairobi for specialized treatment.

Police on Wednesday issued a 7-hour ultimatum to the residents of Kiserian, Nosukro and Mukutani to vacate their homes to allow police tocarry out an operation to flush out the bandits.

According to local residents, members of the Pokot community who have been taking their cattle to graze in Baringo South, an already depleted grazing land, are accused of also stealing cattle from their neighbours.

A standoff that currently persists between security officers and the bandits has left the locals in a precarious position, as they are unable to leave the area.

Residents now live in fear as they anticipate the bandits could launch a deadly attack against them anytime.
