Bandits attack NYS truck ferrying relief food to Baringo

Armed bandits attacked a National Youth Service (NYS) lorry ferrying relief food to displaced residents in Randonin area, Baringo North.

No one was injured during the Thursday, February 23 morning attack in which the bandits forced the servicemen to offload the entire consignment.

The NYS personnel reportedly boarded the truck to safety later, after the bandits had fled.

Devolution Cabinet Secretary, Mwangi Kiunjuri, was expected to distribute the foodstuff later to starving residents.

In a separate incident, hundreds of residents of Marigat reportedly barricaded Marigat-Loruk road intent to deny passage a convoy of Red Cross trucks ferrying food to East Pokot residents.

Baringo County has in the recent past turned into a bandits free roam region.

The attacks occur just a day after suspect Pokot bandits killed two men at Yatya area.

On Saturday, February 18, a gang of armed men selectively killed an aspiring parliamentarian for Tiaty Constituency and a sitting MCA of Loyamorok ward at a nightclub in Marigat town.

The government plans to conduct a forceful disarmament exercise to mop out illegal weapons in the volatile region.
