Bank security officer in Mbita arrested with home-made gun, ammunition

Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) based in Homa Bay arrested Moris Ochieng- a local bank security officer in Mbita- while on patrol on Tuesday night.

According to a police report that Citizen Digital is privy to, detectives initially suspected Ochieng was peddling bhang but upon ordering him to open his bag, they discovered a home-made pistol.

Detectives then conducted a spirited search at the 38-year-old suspect’s house where they discovered a cache of various parts of a firearm which closely resembled those of an AK-47.

They also recovered a mysterious powder which has since been submitted for forensic analysis.

The arrest comes in the wake of increasing incidences of crime and insecurity in Homa Bay.

Meanwhile, probe has begun on the matter to ascertain the motive of the suspect and whether he was working with others to assemble the firearms.

The DCI has also warned Kenyans to be cautious of criminals brandishing ‘fake’ guns as some of them are capable of firing.
