Baringo: Cop who survived accident that killed his 7 colleagues shot dead in bandit attack

A police officer under anti-stock theft in Chemoi,Baringo North was on Thursday shot dead in a bandit attack.

According to reports, he was outside their camp with 10 others collecting firewood when they were ambushed by more than 15 bandits armed with AK-47s.

The officer was reportedly shot on the back as he attempted to flee, with the bullet exiting through his belly.

Two other officers sustained gunshot wounds as they returned fire during the New Year Eve attack.

Tension now remains high in the area and shops have remained closed with residents apprehensive of a possible attack.

The slain officer was among several officers who survived a flooding incident in which 7 police officers were swept away.

Only five officers from the 12 that were riding the ill-fated police vehicle survived.

The slain officer had been swept for over 200 metres before he held onto a twig, saving himself.
