Baringo Governor disputes loss of Ksh 280M to graft

Baringo County Government has disputed a recent audit report indicating that Ksh 280 million was lost through county’s budgetary loopholes.

The report by Auditor General Edward Ouko alleges that the monies were paid to ghost workers in the 2014/2015 financial year.

Baringo Governor, Benjamin Cheboi, has, however, refuted the claims saying that the report was a mere propaganda by his political opponents.

“Which of the hundreds of Early Childhood Education (ECD) teachers recruited by the county is a ghost? Don’t they all receive salaries?” queried the governor.

The report indicates that Ksh 151 million was paid to non-existent ECDE teachers, while Economic Stimulus Programmes received Ksh 17.2 million.

Residents have, however, differed with the Governor terming his leadership as corrupt.
