Baringo: Man stabbed with a sword in the chest in bar brawl

Kigen Boit, middle-aged man from Kabartonjo in Baringo North is fighting for his life at the Baringo County Referral Hospital after he was stabbed in the chest in a bar brawl.

The Saturday night incident was sparked by a row on how to share alcohol he had bought jointly at a bar with a friend, Edward Mulwo.

Witnesses say the 50-year-old Mulwo whipped out his sword and stabbed his friend in the left side of the chest after their argument escalated.

This incident comes in the backdrop of Kabartonjo residents calling on the government to crackdown on bars in the region which are still operating despite a government directive.

On July 7, President Uhuru Kenyatta banned the sale of alcoholic drinks in all restaurants in the country and directed that all bars remain closed indefinitely to slow down the rising rate of COVID-19 transmission in the country.

President Kenyatta said the government had noted with concern that people are socializing without regard to protective behavior in environments selling alcohol, posing one of the greatest risk factors in the country’s battle against the pandemic.

The ban on sale of alcohol in restaurants and eateries will remain in force for the next 30 days.

“That there shall be no sale of alcoholic beverages in eateries and restaurants across the territory of the republic of Kenya effective midnight today for the next 30 days,” said Kenyatta.

He further amended the closing time of all restaurants from 9pm to 7pm.
