Baringo MCA Renson Parkei released on bond

Mukutani Ward Member of County Assembly (MCA) Renson Parkei has been released on a Sh100,000 cash bail by a Nakuru court after he denied charges of incitement to violence.

The court released the accused on bail, despite the State’s strong objection saying he is likely to interfere with the peace restoration process, which may lead to continued conflict between the Ilchamus and Turgen communities in the area.

The MCA was accused of inciting members of the ilchamus and Turgen communities to violence on February 1, 2016 at a primary school in Mukutani, Baringo County during a security meeting that was being addressed by area assistant sub county commissioner.

The violence that ensued led to the death of three people.

He was arrested at Mpeyot in Marigat Trading Centre and taken to Mogotio Police Station.

Earlier there was controversy over his whereabouts after a human rights activist, Amos Ole Mpaka, said he visited the police station where he was supposedly held but could not find him.

Olempaka said he was told that the suspect had been moved to Menengai Police Station, but the mystery of his whereabouts was solved after he appeared in court on Monday.

The case will be heard on March 22, 2016.
