Baringo politicians murder causes a storm in Parliament

The National Assembly on Tuesday, February 21 evening disrupted normal business to discuss the killings in Baringo four days after the murder of a Member of the County Assembly and a Tiaty Constituency Parliamentary aspirant.

Baringo North Member of Parliament, William Cheptumo, urged the government to move with speed and end the killings in the region.

The two, a Tiaty Constituency Parliamentary aspirant Pepee Kitambaa and Loyamorok Member of the County Assembly (MCA), Kibet Cheretei, were shot dead at 3:00 am Saturday, February 18.

Mr Kitambaa, who was eyeing the Parliamentary seat currently held by Asman Kamama on a Jubilee Party ticket, and Mr Cheretei, were gunned down at a night club in the town of Marigat.

The families of the two called on the government to investigate Mr Kamama over the killings.

However, Kamama, who is the National Assembly Security Committee chairman, denied links to the murder.

The wife of the late Mr Kitambaa, Mary Chebet, had said she had no concrete information why her husband was killed, but suspected it was planned by his political rivals.

The tension in Baringo County has always dragged Mr Kamama to the centre of the conflict.

But Kamama maintains he is not linked to the murder of the two.
