Baringo residents raise red flag over banditry

Leaders from the minority Endorois community in Baringo County have criticized the latest banditry attack where one person was killed and unknown number of livestock stolen.

Led by Wilson Kipkazi, the chairman Endorois Welfare Association, the leaders called for the resignation of Tiaty Member of Parliament Asman Kamama from the powerful National Assembly Security Committee alleging that the attackers came from his constituency.

“If he cannot stop his people from attacking their neighbours, then there is no need for him to keep that position, he should just resign,” Kipkazi said.

He added that hundreds of residents in Chemorong’nyon fled their homes on Wednesday and Thursday after the attack.

Other villages that are affected by the raids include Kasiela and Lomoiywet in Baringo South Sub-County.

The incident came even as a public hearing by the Kenya National Commission on Human Rights led by its chair person Kagwiria Mbogori was ongoing.

The commission was interviewing locals and victims in Baringo over the cattle rustling menace.

Kipkazi added that 30 people had been killed and 3, 000 others displaced over the past five years.
