Baringo residents urged to move over fears of landslides

Baringo County Deputy Governor Jacob Chepkwony has warned residents living in flood and landslide prone areas in the county to be cautious and move to higher grounds to avert disasters following the heavy rains that continue to pound.

Citing Salabani, Eldume, Ngambo, Kampi ya Samaki, Kiserian, Mogotio and Kapcheluguny areas as most vulnerable, Chepkwony urged resident to be alert for rising water levels as the rains continue.

Chepkwony further advised residents in Sacho, Tenges, Sirwo, Kibonjos, Kapropita, Talai and Sumeiyon areas to watch our for early warning signs of impending earth slides such soil moving away from foundations, cracking of concrete walls and floors, sunken road beds and leaning electricity poles.

He, however indicated that they were closely monitoring the levels of water in the flood prone areas to avert any incidents.

The former Moi University lecturer further added that the county government has already partnered with humanitarian agencies such as Kenya Red Cross Society, National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) and World Food Program to help mitigate against the disasters.
