Baringo trio: Boys whose dancing video went viral get scholarship in Nyahururu

The Baringo trio who were featured on Citizen TV last year after a video of them dancing went viral are an elated lot once again.

Kevin Lekimariki, Andrea Lenapir and Lepasiron Lekachuma are now pupils at a school in Nyahururu.

“The beautiful Dancing trio from Baringo South Constituency, Baringo County. They danced not knowing what was in store for them. They were spotted and featured on JKL and now Jeff Koinange and friends have facilitated them to join Little Lambs School, Nyahururu. We’re most excited for them! Thanks a lot for sharing the posts featuring them,” a post on Kalenjins Online Facebook page reads.

It all started off after a video of the boys—aged between 10 and 11– emerged on social media.

They are from the Ilchamus community and were raised from a humble background. The area chief Jacob Letangule revealed that the boys are always together.

They were performing at a secondary school prayer day for exam candidates.

In the video, two of them are seen dancing without shoes: they steal the show as the audience gives them a standing ovation.

“Kuna wimbo nilikuwa ninapenda mimi nikaenda sherehe ingine, hiyo wimbo ikawekwa nikacheza na marafiki zangu,” Andrea Lenapir said.

The boys did not know that someone had recorded them and before they knew it, the video had gone viral on social media under the hashtag Baringo Trio.

Friends and fans including Citizen TV’s Jeff Koinange would later start dancing like the three boys: imitating their unique dancing style.

A paybill number was set up and Kenyans responded in huge numbers, raising funds to buy foodstuffs, shoes, mattresses and other items for the boys and their families.

In December last year, Koinange and his colleagues Rashid Abdulla and Professor Hamo visited the boys bearing the gifts.

And the gifts kept coming: a month later, they received news that their education has been fully sponsored.

What a way to kick off the new year! Citizen TV wishes the Baringo trio all the best.
