Battle for EALA posts heads to Parliament as Jubilee, NASA table names

The opposition, the National Super Alliance (NASA), has submitted to the August House the names of its five nominees to the East Africa Legislative Assembly (EALA), amid discontent among Members of Parliament from both political divides who feel that they consist of relatives and friends of top NASA leaders.

Top in the list is Kennedy Musyoka, Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka’s son, ODM National Election Board Chair, Judith Pareno, Caroline Aluoch Obure, Ronald Ng’eno and Abubakar Zein.

Led by Majority Leader in the National Assembly, Aden Duale, the leaders have vowed to oppose the nominees and make sure that they do not give them the green light, with the Garissa Township Legislator taking a swipe at the two top-most opposition leaders, Raila Odinga and Kalonzo Musyoka.

“I want to thank Oburu for listening to me, and for saving his brother, his family, and ODM from any further embarrassment,” said Aden Duale.

“You cannot reinstate your sons, your girlfriends and those who do crimes for you against leaders to pass them. We will ensure that they do not pass through Parliament.”

Jubilee Legislators have also expressed their displeasure on why the opposition presented only five names, arguing that NASA is planning to gag the House from its mandate instead of presenting a big list so that they can choose from it.

Deputy President, William Ruto, has also come out to strongly accuse the opposition outfit of accusing the Jubilee administration of propagating tribalism.

“They always tell us that they don’t want tribalism, but they endorse their brothers and sons. You are talking to us about uniting Kenyans but you are practicing nepotism,” said DP Ruto.

Wiper Party Deputy Leader, Farah Maalim, has, however, defended the nomination of Kennedy Musyoka, insisting that he is a young, brilliant man who was chosen by the party on merit.

“We are happy to announce the best vetted candidates, and Kennedy Musyoka emerged with the highest score among the seven applicants who submitted their names. He showed us that he is capable and qualified for the EALA position,” argued Farah Maalim, who will be seeking to oust Duale in the August polls on a Wiper ticket.

However, Jubilee has also tabled a list of 15 nominees to the National Assembly. Among the notable names include former PS Mutea Iringo, Mandera North MP Adan Mohamed and retired clerk of the House, Justin Bundi.
