‘BBI kuna wenyewe, mimi nafanya kazi ya maendeleo,’ says DP Ruto

Deputy President Dr William Ruto has again dismissed the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) constitutional amendment push terming it a non-priority issue in the country.

The Deputy President, who was speaking at St. Moore Catholic Church, Kairuri Parish in Embu on Wednesday, mockingly alluded to the BBI initiative saying there were people in government who had decided to make it a priority.

He stated that he had hence chosen to assist President Uhuru Kenyatta in other areas critical to Kenyans such as development.

“BBI kuna wenyewe…mimi nilikuwa nimesema, kwa sababu kazi ni nyingi, mimi nisaidie president katika ile kazi ya maendeleo…ya barabara, stima, maji…wenginge pia washughulike na hii ya BBI…kwa sababu kazi ni kazi,” he stated.

A group of elected leaders in attendance backed the Deputy President’s views. Among them included Nominated MP Cecily Mbarire who said; “Hata hakuna mtu ameona hiyo kitabu ya BBI…hakuna…hata akiulizwa ni ile tu anaskia kwa viongozi…kwa hivo kama hatujaona kitabu, you cannot support something you actually don’t know is actually there or not.”

Mbeere South MP Godfrey King’ang’I, on his part, chimed in; “Kama viongozi tuambiane ukweli….Senator (Irungu Kang’ata) aliandika barua, na ilikuwa inaongea ukweli…na ukweli ingine ni kwamba uchumi ya Kenya imeenda chini sana.”

The Deputy President was in Embu to condole with the family of the Catholic Church’s John Cardinal Njue who lost their sister Wakinyua Njuki.
