Bernard Ngugi appointment as Kenya Power boss hangs in the balance
The appointment of Bernard Ngugi as the Managing Director and CEO of Kenya Power hangs in the balance after a case was filed in court.
A petitioner is seeking to have the notice suspended and Mr. Ngugi restrained from performing, acting and discharging duties as were conferred.
Moreen Nyambura argues that Mr. Ngugi was affected by a presidential directive issued on June 1, 2018.
The order required that public officers including heads of procurement and accounting units in ministries and State corporations step aside for fresh vetting.
Mr. Ngugi previously worked as the General Manager, Supply Chain at Kenya Power before he was appointed as MD on October 28, 2019.
In a certificate of urgency, the petitioner argues that the best candidate did not get the job.
She wants the court to compel the Kenya Power Board to immediately and unconditionally make public details of the recruitment process.
The case is ongoing.
