Bernard Njiraini appointed new KEBS Managing Director

Trade Cabinet Secretary Peter Munya on Friday appointed Lt.Col (Rtd) Bernard Njiraini as the new Kenya Bureau of Standards (KEBS) Managing Director.

The appointment follows the exit of Charles Ongwae who is facing abuse of office charges.

Friday’s appointment by Munya elevated Njiraini who has since the end of May served the State agency as acting Managing Director.

Mr. Njiraini had replaced Benard Nguyo who, too, served KEBS on an interim capacity following the ouster of Ongwae.

Charles Ongwae was arrested and charged alongside 14 others in a tax evasion swoop by the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) at the start of the year.

He faces over 30 counts including attempted murder and abuse of authority having in part cleared the sale of fertilizer suspected to contain samples of mercury in the country.

Njiraini has held other key positions within the expansive trade ministry having been appointed as MD to the Trade Ministry affiliated Numerical Machining Complex Limited by CS Munya in January.
