Besieged Kamama dumps Jubilee for Mutuas Chap Chap

Embattled Tiaty MP Asman Kamama has defected from President Uhuru Kenyatta’s Jubilee Party and joined Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua’s Maendeleo Chap Chap movement.

Kamama is currently facing backlash in the National Assembly where the Jubilee coalition is planning to replace him as the chairman of the powerful National Security Committee over failure to tame the prolonged deadly bandit attacks in Baringo County.

Speaking two weeks ago, the National Assembly Majority Leader Aden Duale said Kamama would be replaced and asked to chair the Energy Committee instead.

“We want to change the chair of the committee because there are a number of issues that are being raised by the people of Baringo and North Rift in general,” the Garissa MP said.

A section of leaders from Baringo County led by KANU Chairman Gideon Moi have demanded the replacement of Kamama as the chairman of the Security Committee due to the ongoing conflict in North Rift region.

The Tiaty MP, who is seeking to defend his seat has ditched Jubilee as political re-alignments continue in the run up to the August 8 General Election, joining other prominent politicians, Gitobu Imanyara and former Education minister Kilemi Mwiria, who have since defected to Maendeleo Chap Chap.

Kapenguria constituency parliamentary aspirant Kendagor Obadiah, who recently defected from Jubilee to Maendeleo Chap Chap,  has welcomed Kamama’s defection saying his move is an indication that the new party is gaining ground in Baringo County.

“Maendeleo Chap Chap will get a number of seats in Baringo County and the country at large. We are just waiting for the official campaign period to start before we hit the ground,” said the former journalist Kendagor.

The Maendeleo Chap Chap Party will on Tuesday, March 28,  hold a convention for all its aspirants at the Kasarani Indoor Arena in Nairobi to discuss nominations and party structures.

The party will also use the platform to unveil the politicians who have defected from other parties.

“We will have the meeting on Tuesday, where we will unveil Kamama and other big names who have defected from others parties,” said Governor Mutua when contacted about Kamama’s defection.

Governor Mutua said the Maendeleo Chap Chap movement will field candidates for all positions except in the presidential race since he is supporting President Uhuru Kenyatta’s re-election bid.
