Heavy rain expected from today at the Kenyan Coast

The Kenya Meteorological Department has warned that heavy rainfall is expected at the Kenyan coast from Wednesday.

According to the weatherman, the region will experience rainfall of more than 30mm within 24 hours.

“This heavy rainfall will be accompanied by strong winds and large waves,” Met said in a statement.

On Thursday, September 27, rainfall of over 50mm is expected but the intensity will decrease to 30mm the next day.

The counties that may be affected include Kwale, Mombasa, Kilifi, Taita Taveta, Lamu and Tana River.

Residents in these areas are advised to be on the lookout for floods.

“People are cautioned not to drive, wade or walk through fast moving waters,” the weatherman added.

Fishermen and those in the marine industry have been warned to be on high alert as the heavy rains and strong winds offshore may result in storm surges along the coast.

“Continue listening to local media as updates will be provided if conditions change significantly. Further advisories will be issued as we follow upon the progress of this weather event,” the notice reads.
