Bhang worth Ksh.1.94M nabbed in Rongo after a dramatic police chase
Police in Rongo sub county have nabbed bhang weighing 194 kg and with a street value of Ksh.1.94M.
Rongo sub-county police commander Peter Okiring said the narcotic which was packed in five sacks was being ferried to an unknown destination and was seized by the police after several hours of pursuit.
Mr.Okiring said police officers were on a road block along the Awendo-Rongo highway when the driver of the suspicious motor vehicle ignored the police directives and passed the road block.
He said the officers who were more convinced that it was ferrying contraband good opted to pursue the vehicle for over an hour.
The sub-county police commander said the suspected drug traffickers abandoned the vehicle that was carrying five sacks of bhang and jumped into river Kuja adding that upon searching the vehicle they recovered the bhang.
Mr.Okiring said the police officers who were escorting the narcotics to the police station bumped into another probox which they suspect was secretly ferrying the suspects who escaped.
He said the people who were in the probox also deserted the vehicle and escaped.
The sub-county police boss said the bhang seized is in police custody adding that the two vehicles belonging to suspects have been towed to Kamagambo police station.
Meanwhile, Mr.Okiring has appealed to the members to support the police in the fight against drugs in the region.
