Bhang worth Ksh.23M nabbed in Juja, 5 arrested

Police in Juja, Kiambu County have arrested Martin Mungai who was in possession of 900 kilograms of bhang estimated to be worth around Ksh. 23 million.

Mungai, 28, was apprehended at his home in Mwereri area in Juja by a contingent of police officers who were acting on a tip-off from members of the public.

Upon searching his house, officers managed to recover approximately 900 kilograms of bhang and 23 three live plants.

According to the Juja Sub County police commander Dorothy Migarusha, two other suspects were arrested and are expected to appear in court on Monday.

Authorities claim that two other persons linked to the illegal bhang trade arrived at the scene during the raid and attempted to bribe the Juja farm police post OCS, Mumo Maundu, with Ksh689,000.

Addressing journalists from Juja farm, Migarusha lauded the OCS for painting a positive image of police force that has for years been labeled as corrupt.

She urged Kenyans to cooperate with police saying that the service has changed from harassment and corruption dealings to service delivery for Kenyans.
